Waleed A A Ali

I am Waleed Ali, a Mathematics Lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath since 2017. I specialise in mathematics educational practices, pedagogy and educational reforms in Higher Education. My previous experience was in fluid dynamics and hydrodynamic stability theory.
My aim is to demystify maths in higher education and to make it accessible to a wider audience.
I am a part of the Mathematics Education PRiME group in Bath where we focus our efforts on disseminating effective teaching practices and ways of making students in higher education more engaged in their learning journey.

Administrative Roles in the Univeristy of Bath
Outreach & Widening Participation Officer: I run the Maths Department’s outreach team where we give talks, run workshops and activities in Science Festivals or local state schools. If you have any queries, contact me or Maths Outreach.
HEA Champion: I am the HEA representative of the Maths Department responsible for mentoring and advising Maths staff and PG students wishing to apply for HEA fellowship as well as being an HEA reviewer for the university.
Peer Mentoring Coordinator: I run the Maths department’s peer mentoring scheme where Y2 and Y3 students are matched up with the incoming Y1 students to help advise them and act as a point of contact, easing their transition into university life.
Discover Bath Coordinator: Every year, the department hosts students from across the country where we run a 3-day maths workshop, helping to inspire students to pursue maths as a career and educational path in their future.
Mathematics Convener for the Department of Natural Sciences: In my interdepartmental role, I have been assigned as the convener for all the maths units taught in the Department of Natural Sciences.
